[BINDINGS.] - Alexandre DUMAS. [Dumas’ Romances, his works in English]. Boston: Estes & Lauriat, 1893-1895. 16 works only in 36 volumes, octavo (8 ½ x 5 ¾ inches; 215 x 145mm). Plates, titles printed in red and black. (Vol.IV of the ‘Count of Monte Cristo’ with 3 stab-holes running through the upper cover and about 1/3 of the text). Contemporary half morocco gilt (faded, some joints split, others worn, chipping to spines, three volumes with more significant loss [see images]). Provenance: F.W.R. Eschmann (Yonkers, New York, bookplates).

A beautiful leatherbound selection from the ‘Edition de Luxe’ limited to 1000 sets, this numbered 421. The full ‘Edition de Luxe’ set should contain 43 volumes, the present selection includes: The three musketeers (two volumes); Twenty years after (two volumes); The vicomte de Bragelonne (five volumes); Marguerite de Valois; La dame de Monsoreau (two volumes); The forty-five (two volumes); The Count of Monte Cristo (4 volumes); The company of Jehu (two volumes); The first republic (two volumes); The last Vendée (two volumes); The chevalier d'Harmental; The regent's daughter. The black tulip; Memoirs of a physician (three volumes); The queen's necklace; Ange Pitou (two volumes); La comtesse de Charny (four volumes).

The set is missing the four final works (published in 1896): Le chevalier de Maison-Rouge; The Page of the Duke of Savoy; The two Dianas (in two volumes); Celebrated crimes (in three volumes).
