EGYPTIAN FAIENCE BAST AMULET
712-30 BC, Late Period/Ptolemaic. A faience amulet showing the goddess Bast in cat form with rear-facing suspension loop. The goddess Bastet (Bast) was the daughter of Ra, the sun god. She was typically shown with the features of a lion, as a cat or a human with a cat head. Bast was a protective, maternal goddess and was seen as a protector of pregnant women and young children. Fair condition. Wearable Size: H: 38.3mm, W: 21.6mm; 5.54g. Provenance: Private UK collection; formerly with a USA gallery; imported by Mr. E.E. in the shortly before and after the WW2.
