EGYPTIAN FAIENCE BES AMULET
712-30 BC, Late Period/Ptolemaic. A beautiful light blue Bes amulet depicting the god as a grotesque, bearded dwarf, with a mask with hybrid monkey-lion features, and an animal’s tail. Pierced transversely for suspension. Bes’s role was as a of women, the household, children, and he was particularly linked to the critical phase of labour and birth. Good condition. Wearable Size: H: 32.2mm, W: 11.2mm; 1.82g. Provenance: Private UK collection; formerly with a USA gallery; imported by Mr. E.E. in the shortly before and after the WW2.
