Portrait of a Pacific Steam Navigation Company mail ship. Likely a John Elder-designed steam/sail vessel, possibly the Aconcagua, with the company's flag flying from the central mast. Unsigned.

The Pacific Steam Navigation Company was contracted by the Crown for mail delivery service to South America and Australia.

Oil on canvas, 24" x 46". Framed 29" x 51".

Condition: Relined and restretched. UV light reveals extensive retouch to water to address broad craqueleur. Some retouch to hull. Scattered retouch throughout sky.
