Early 19th C. French Brass Pricket Candlesticks (pr)

Western Europe, France, ca. early to mid 19th century CE. A lovely pair of cast-brass altar candlesticks, also known as prickets, with a tripod base resting on abstract, paw-shaped feet. The lower body of each stick is triangular and holds a threaded tang projecting from beneath the upper body. The upper bodies have a multi-lobed presentation which tapers gradually to a flared wax basin with a conical, candle-holding point. Size: 5" W x 12.375" H (12.7 cm x 31.4 cm).
Provenance: private Los Angeles County, California, USA collection, acquired by descent from the owner's father, collection amassed between 1950-1990

Condition Report: Repair to tip of one candle-holding point. Surface wear and minor abrasions commensurate with age and use, light tarnishing across most surfaces, slight bending to overall form as well as candle-holding points, and some roughness below bases, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits throughout. Old inventory labels written in black ink below bases of each candlestick.
