Early 20th C. Nepalese Brass Dorje + Prayer Wheel

Central Asia, Tibet, ca. early 20th century CE. A pair of Buddhist sacred objects. First, a prayer wheel with a brass body and handle and a carved bone "wheel" surface that spins freely and features relief motifs of some of the Eight Auspicious Symbols of Buddhism. Brass discs at top and bottom feature dozens of inlaid turquoise and carnelian discs. Second, a brass dorje, representing the moment of Enlightenment, features a pretty ornate surface with abstract dragon-like motifs at each terminal. Size of largest (prayer wheel): 1.85" W x 8.5" H (4.7 cm x 21.6 cm)

Provenance: private J.H. collection, Beaverton, Oregon, USA; dorje is ex-private Singapore collection, acquired in July 2006

Condition Report: Dorje is in nice condition with light wear commensurate with age and a pretty dark patina. The prayer wheel also has nice patina. Approximately half of the turquoise and carnelian inlays remain.
