Large painting “Artémise buvant les cendres de Mausole,” work of a 17th century Flemish School, follower of Pierre Paul Rubens. The architectural setting, through an illusion of stone and relief, gives depth and light. Artemisia who died in 351 BC, widow of King Mausolus, drinks her husband's ashes, mixed with wine. She will have a funerary monument built, the Mausoleum. Men spread the contents on the stone of the funeral urn. This painting is on a no parquetry oak panel, consisting of 4 planks, one of which was added on. There are old cracks, lacks, and restorations, also on the frame. On the back of the panel, it is very interesting to note the symbol of the city of Antwerp (doves carrying a severed hand) . Hand delivery possible in Paris, La Ferté Bernard region. #Exclusive.
