\Artist: Ecole française vers 1870
Technique: Oil on canvas\Signature: Not signed\Dimensions: 92_60_0_cm
French school, circa 1870 ‘Sainte Famille sous un chêne,’ after Raphael, on a gold background Oil on canvas Height: 92 cm - Width: 60 cm This aesthetic curiosity reworks the very famous composition of Raphael offered to Philip IV of Spain in 1640, kept at the Escorial Palace, and now at the Prado Museum in Madrid. Made around 1520, this large format of the Italian master is a masterpiece of the Renaissance that has been copied many times by entire generations of apprentice painters. Here we find the composition, oval, placed in a neo-classical facade monument with many flowery elements easily dating it to the end of the 19th century. The peculiarity of this canvas is that it is gilded all around with leaf and sometimes with gold paint, which gives it the peculiarity of a shiny background. These glosses are obviously uneven due to the two types of gilding and their shades giving the ancient monument a patinated appearance.
