Edgar Plans (b. 1977), White Experience In A Black Board (2019)

[ translate ]

Edgar Plans (b. 1977) White Experience In A Black Board, 2019 Acrylic and oil stick on paper 27 x 19-1/4 inches (68.6 x 48.9 cm) (sheet) Signed to lower left Edgar Plans is a Spanish mixed-media artist known for his cartoonish figures and expressive doodles. Plans says that his work is influenced by comic art and the spirit of childhood creativity, including his own early experiences making art. He cites Urban Art as a life-long inspiration, as he sees it as a form that allows the artist freedom to tap into the unbridled creativity that children have when they create. His work, while featuring a playful style, addresses the social and political issues we face today, such as racism, climate change, violence, and more. This can be seen in his popular Animal Heroes series, where Plans paints animal superheroes that fight violence against both the planet and people. Elsewhere in his work, such as this unique piece, he uses a darker, more abstract style that is more evocative of Basquiat than comic art. Plans’ expressive style and imaginative works have given him a place in the Urban Art scene amongst his inspirations. This lot is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from Galeria Miquel Alzueta. HID09710052018 © 2022 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
