Egyptian Bronze Figure of a Kneeling Priest

[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $400**

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A cast-bronze figure of a kneeling priest with sharply bent and tucked beneath the thighs. The upright posture of the figure suggests the priest is engaged in prayer and perhaps once held a small implement atop the lap. Figures like this example were created as votive offerings to be left at temples or places of worship as kneeling priests signified the constant worship of the gods. Fine areas of brown, green and russet patina have formed over the surfaces. Size: 1.125" L x 0.875" W x 2.25" H (2.9 cm x 2.2 cm x 5.7 cm); 2.9" H (7.4 cm) on included custom stand.
