Egyptian Bronze Frog Amulet

Late Period, 26th-30th Dynasty, 688-343 B.C.

Of naturalistic form, with frontal and rear flippers, elongated and raised head, bulging eyes, and sunk-in dotted back. Pierced through it's back vertically with traces of an iron pin, and a fragmented suspension extension at the rear.
Sacred to Heqat, the goddess of fertility and regeneration, represented in the form of a frog. Heqat was a protector of women in childbirth.

Length (cm): 3.5

Provenance:
European Collection, early 80s.

Condition:
Suspension hole at rear broken, not affecting the frog, otherwise intact and in very fine condition.
