Egyptian Cartonnage Panel

Ptolemaic Period, 332-30 BC. Two sections of mummy cartonnage: the chest part comprising a Broad Collar with falcon's head terminals, a winged scarab and the winged goddess Isis; the lower section with panels showing Anubis officiating over the deceased on the funerary bier flanked by the goddesses Nephthys and Isis; four crouching protecting deities with was sceptres on their knees, a winged scarab, the Four Sons of Horus flanking a column of hieroglyphs reading: 'O Osiris, Lord of the West, great God, Lord of Abydos, Osiris [damaged]'; painted in bright polychrome colours; mounted in a wooden frame; probably from different mummies. Property of an important London collector; acquired from Cahn Auktionen AG, 9 November 2013, lot 53; ex A.T. collection Switzerland, circa 1950-1980; accompanied by a copy of a Art Loss Register certificate no.S00079679 and a copy of the relevant Cahn catalogue pages; this lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is accompanied by AIAD certificate number no.10881-179471.
