Egyptian Coptic Textile Fragments (framed pr)

**First Time At Auction**

Egypt, Coptic culture, ca. 5th to 6th century CE. A wonderful pair of Coptic textile fragments comprised of tightly-woven natural cotton fibers in hues of tan, wheat, cobalt, and crimson. Each panel is square in form and depicts a series of abstract curvilinear motifs surrounding a central eight-pointed star. The periphery is detailed with a register of crossbar-shaped forms, and each fragment is set against a red textile panel. Mounted inside a wooden frame. Size (textiles [both are relatively similar]): 2.625" W x 2.625" H (6.7 cm x 6.7 cm); size (frame): 11.375" W x 9.425" H (28.9 cm x 23.9 cm).

Provenance: private Davis collection, Houston, Texas, USA, acquired in 2003; ex-private Studio City, California, USA collection
