Egyptian Faience Bead Necklace - Six Strands

[ translate ]

**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Late Dynastic Period, 21st to 31st Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 332 BCE. A beautiful and wearable necklace composed of hundreds of glazed faience seed beads. A single strand behind the neck branches out into six individual strands that cascade in front, and modern fluted silver spacer caps delineate the area of separation. The ancient Egyptians referred to faience as "tjehnet" - meaning brilliant or dazzling - and was made from ground quartz or sand crystals together with various elements. Faience beads were used to make jewelry, but were also used to make funerary nets to be placed over mummies. Strung in modern times and capped with a silver-plated loop and lobster clasp combo, this is a fine example of ancient Egyptian art! Size (necklace): 18" L (45.7 cm); (largest bead): 0.125" W (0.3 cm)

Provenance: private Dunn collection, Coral Springs, Florida, USA, acquired in the 1990s

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.
