Egyptian Glazed Faience Pataikos Amulet

Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A mold-formed faience amulet depicting Pataikos, the bow-legged dwarf god meant as a protector and a mitigator of violent natural forces. The attenuated figure stands atop an integral rectangular plinth and holds both arms to the sides of his distended abdomen. His minimalist head bears petite eyes and full lips beneath a protruding forehead. The entire amulet is enveloped in lustrous, turquoise-hued glaze, and a perforated hole through the neck enables its suspension. Size: 0.4" W x 1" H (1 cm x 2.5 cm)

Condition Report: Minor nicks and abrasions to plinth and figure, with minor fading to original glaze color, and softening to some finer details, otherwise intact and very good. Nice remains of original glaze throughout.
