Egyptian Glazed Faience Ushabti for a Wab Priest
Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate period, 21st to 25th Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 664 BCE. A mold-formed faience ushabti covered in lustrous blue glaze. The figure stands in mummiform with fused legs, holds the symbolic pick and hoe in hands crossed atop the chest, and has a seed bag painted behind both shoulders. The serene visage is defined by slender ovoid eyes, a petite nose, tapered cheeks, and cupped ears, all beneath a tripartite wig and a thin headband. The front of the legs bears a black-painted hieroglyphic inscription that dedicates the statue to Osiris and identifies the individual as a Wab Priest with a partial name of Heb. Size: 0.875" W x 2.2" H (2.2 cm x 5.6 cm); 3.625" H (9.2 cm) on included custom stand.
