Egyptian Glazed Faience Ushabti

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A mold-formed faience ushabti covered in traces of blue-green glaze. The figure stands in mummiform with fused legs atop an integral plinth and dorsal pillar, holds a pick and hoe in crossed arms, and has a seed bag incised behind the left shoulder. The peaceful countenance is defined by a broad nose, cupped ears, ovoid eyes, a false beard, and a wide forehead beneath a tripartite wig. Size: 1.1" W x 4.2" H (2.8 cm x 10.7 cm)

Provenance: private Dunn collection, Coral Springs, Florida, USA, acquired in the 1990s

Condition Report: Chips to back of feet, dorsal pillar, and head, with softening to some finer details, and chipping and fading to original glazing, otherwise intact and very good. Nice traces of original glaze pigmentation visible.
