Egyptian Polychrome Ushabti for Wab Priest of Amun

Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 19th to 20th Dynasty, ca. 1292 to 1070 BCE. A hand-built pottery ushabti figure depicting a standing wab priest of Amun. The figure stands with fused legs and crosses slender arms atop the chest, with a pick and hoe painted above the hands in orange-red pigment and a large seed bag painted in a similar hue behind both shoulders. The almond-shaped eyes rest peacefully above the smooth cheeks and broad nose, and the lengthy lappets of the tripartite wig cover the sides of the striped wesekh collar pectoral atop the yellow ground. Written in a column atop the legs is a hieroglyphic statement that reads, "The Illuminate, the Osiris, Wab-Priest of Amun . . . " in black pigment. Size: 2.25" W x 6.25" H (5.7 cm x 15.9 cm); 7.5" H (19 cm) on included custom stand.

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.

Condition Report: Repaired from two large pieces across waist, with small areas of restoration along back of break line, and resurfacing with overpainting along new material and break lines. Original feet missing as shown and mounting hole drilled beneath break. Abrasions and fading to original pigmentation, with light softening to some finer details, touch-up painting to upper yellow area atop legs, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits and remains of original pigment throughout. One TL drill hole inside mounting cavity on bottom.
