Egyptian Rock Crystal Uraeus Cobra Amulet
Ptolemaic Period, 332-30 BC. A carved crystal amuletic pendant of the uraeus cobra on a rectangular base with loop behind the neck and hood. See Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, accession number 25.3.172d, for a similar piece. 8.25 grams, 35mm (1 1/2"). From an old British private collection; formed between 1975 and 1985. Dr Bonewitz notes: 'The carver has skillfully used a frosted finish to convey the impression of scales.'
