Egyptian porphyry head of a youth, Roman Egypt
An Egyptian porphyry head of a youth, Roman Egypt, c. 1st Century AD, perhaps intended to depict a prince, with closely cropped hair and well-proportioned features. Close inspection indicates that the unfinished look of the head is due to its purpose as a core that was to be plastered and painted, with remnants of plaster remaining throughout. An interesting piece crafted of a lovely stone! H: 7 1/2 in (19 cm). Mounted on a heavy stone base. Ex Virginia private collection.
Condition: The absence of a condition statement does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections , the effects of aging, or repair/restoration work. Interested bidders are strongly encouraged to request a condition report on any lots upon which they intend to bid, prior to placing a bid, and we will be happy to give you a full overview of the items' condition.
