An Egyptian wood figure of a seated cat, Late Period, c. 664 - 30 BC, representing the goddess Bastet, the nicely carved feline is mounted on the original rectangular wood base with remnants of the original gesso at the base as the figure was originally painted. 4 x 4 ¼ x 2 in (10.1 x 5.1 x 10.8 cm). A very nice little votive piece with attractive deep brown tone. Ex Albert Eid & Co., Cairo; Ex collection of Theodore Bachman, New York, acquired in the early to mid-1900’s.
