bears false signature ‘K. Karssen’ (Kasparus Karssen (1810-1896) lower left. The composition completely matches a well-known work by Cornelis Springer (see literature W. Laanstra. H. C. de Bruijn jr., J. H. A. Ringeling, Cornelis Springer (1817-1891), Utrecht 1984, 50-2.). The building appears to be a capriccio. In the 1950s and 1970s Springer repeated this composition twice more: the same building (but different figures/context and different name on the facade of the building) see Laanstra 51-2 and 71-7.
