A black lacquered oblong papier-mâché box has been inlaid with mother of pearl in a Chinese design of flowers with a bird flying above. The papier-mâché box has been coated in a black lacquer to approximate Chinese lacquered vessels. The box has slightly concave sides which round to a slightly everted flat lip. The lid has a flange which fits the box exactly and has a metal pin as a hinge.The interior is fitted with a silver colored foil.The base is slightly rounded. The box has a nice light feel. MEASUREMENTS 4” long x 2” wide x 1” tall. Weighs 1.7 oz (47 g) CONDITION The box is intact with no breaks or cracks. There is crazing to the black finish. The finish in the front base is worn from use.There are small dents in the finish on the base. All the inlays appear to be intact. A very old antique snuff box to add to a collection or for display in a décor to add richness and interest.
