Ennio Finzi (Venice, 1931) , one of the most important Italian abstract artists, made his debut in 1947 at Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, Venice, where in 1956 and 1958 he made two important solo exhibitions introduced in the catalogue by Toni Toniato and Umbro Apollonio. In 1957 he exhibited at Galleria Schneider, Rome (presented by Virgilio Guidi) , and at Galleria Numero, Florence. In 1958 at Galleria Apollinaire, Milan (with review by Giuseppe Marchiori) , he presented his latest research on the theme of “light-vibration rhythms” in which Lucio Fontana was interested. Always in the fifties he exhibited in group exhibitions on spatialism at Galleria del Cavallino of Carlo Cardazzo. Upon invitation, he participated in the 1959 Quadrennial and again in the 2000 edition. In 1986 he participated in the international Venice Biennale. Considered one of the Italian forerunners in the field of kinetic art and programmed art, from the fifties he developed his research in the field of pure visuality. The rigorous structuring of his pictorial language, which developed throughout the sixties and seventies, was theoretically supported by Umbro Apollonio and Carlo Belloli. Later, he developed a research based again on colour, contributing to the definition of a new line of abstraction that has continued from the eighties until today. In addition, since the fifties he has made works on paper, projects on structured visuality, and pastel works with collage on cardboard. The publication of the general catalogue of his works by Silvana Editoriale is forthcoming.
