Eric Morecambe (1926-1984) – Framed Pipe display; with accompanying Joan Morecambe Signed Autograph Letter of Authenticity - The pipe, belonging to Eric Morecambe, Syphon Patent 13397, made in Strasburg with an Autographed Signed Letter of Authenticity, handwritten by Joan Morecambe in blue ballpoint pen on a single sheet of paper with printed header, ‘Eric Morecambe O.B.E’, which reads, . . . ‘This pipe belonged to my late husband, Eric Morecambe, and is being donated to ‘Comic Heritage’ for their charity fund raising, Joan Morecambe‘, inset title beneath reads, ‘Presented to the Grand Order of Water Rats by David Graham of Comic Heritage’, within a presentation wood glazed box frame, 45.5 x 34 x 4.5cm overall. John Eric Bartholmew, known by his stage name, Eric Morecambe, was an English comedian who together with Ernie Wise formed the double act partnership, Morecambe and Wise. ‘Eric and Ernie’ were both members of The Grand Order of Water Rats, a charitable organisation founded in 1889 for members of the entertainment industry, which is known for its high-profile membership and benevolent works. The name Water Rats was selected because ‘rats’ spelled backwards is ‘star’. Provenance: Gifted to vendor’s mother who is a lawyer, by magician, the late Paul Daniels, when she carried out pro bono charity work for The Order of The Water Rats.
