Note: Fei Yigeng was born in Wucheng, Zhejiang. The son of a painter, he was taught early the subtle art of painting. He was a close friend of the painter Xiong Zhang (1803—1886) and they did collaborate together on a painting titled “Méi yuè cháng'é shànmiàn / 梅月嫦娥扇面”, a piece of art which is now housed in the collection of the Forbidden City, Beijing.
