¶ Very rare publication (only 1 copy in NCC) printed in red & black by “R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company at The Lakeside Press” (Chicago) comprising texts by the American lawyer Charles Carroll Bonney (1831-1903) & the German-American philosopher Paul Carus (1852-1919). One of 100 copies of the DE-LUXE EDITION printed on American handmade paper. Ex bibliotheca “KONINGIN EMMA” (=Emma of Waldeck and Pyrmont, 1858-1934, Queen Regent of the Netherlands in 1890-1898) with her armorial book-plate mounted on upper paste-down & her blind-stamp (crowned “E”) on half-title. With a loosely inserted vellum leaf with manuscript text in black ink “Her Majesty, The Queen Regent of The Netherlands”. “The Parliament of Religions opened on 11 September 1893 at the World’s Congress Auxiliary Building which is now The Art Institute of Chicago, and ran from 11 to 27 September, making it the first organized interfaith gathering. Today it is recognized as the occasion of the birth of formal interreligious dialogue worldwide, with representatives of a wide variety of religions and new religious movements” (cited from Wikipedia). ¶ Binding partly foxed/ browned, but nevertheless in good condition.
