AN ELEGANT FRENCH ART DECO EXOTIC WOODS MARQUETRY INLAID MACASSAR EBONY AND GILT IRON CREDENZA, POSSIBLY BY JULES LELEU, PAULE LELEU, AND GILBERT POILLERAT, TOULOUSE, 1930s, The rectangular top centering a raised panel with basket weave parquetry inlay framed by rosewood crossbanding above stepped cavetto sides, inset from double reeded trim over a vertically inlaid frieze and two long doors mounted with silvered metal cinch reeded block escutcheons opening to tulipwood lined interiors with adjustable shelf fittings, flanking a short vertical marquetry inlaid door with exotic fruitwoods and highlighted in abalone with pewter/brass details, depicting two bare torsoed mermaids flanking long sinuous sea grasses interspersed with waving starfish above a nautilus shell and stylized fan shell over a sea coral cluster, opening to a tulipwood lined interior of six short drawers, over an external vertically inlaid flaring base and raised on gilt and patinated iron supports, cast as twist cord tied cursive loops flanking a triple line detailed scrolling bracket after Gilbert Poillerat, raised on stepped rectangular plaques and joined by a conforming stretcher plinth ending on gilt brass trim.
