FROM MARKET TO MARSH: A SLIDING PICTURE DEPICTING A CLOTHED AND NUDE FEMALE FIGURE IN A LANDSCAPE
a pair, both oil on panel, framed together
the former (clothed): 47.1 x 39.9 cm.; 18½ x 15⅝ in.
the latter (nude): 47.2 x 35 cm.; 18⅝ x 13¾ in.
framed: 64.6 x 53.4 cm.; 25½ x 21 in.
Condition Report:
The former (clothed): the panel is uncradled and slightly bowed. The paint surface is dirty, the varnish discoloured, and a pronounced network of craquelure is visible throughout. There is an unpainted section, 4.5 cm. wide, along the right-hand margin; there is a 14cm. long vertical crack in this section, running down from the upper edge. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals fine lines of retouching in the network of craquelure and a handful of small retouchings to old losses and surface scuffs.
The latter (nude): The panel is uncradled, flat and stable, bevelled on all four sides. The paint surface is relatively clean and the varnish clear and even. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals retouchings along all four margins and small pinprick retouchings in the upper half of the figure and scattered in the landscape, particularly to her left. In overall good condition.
