FRENCH VICTORIAN LINEN TEA TOWELS (11) - Linen - Early 20th century
This is a group of 11 mixed fabrics and designs. There are 3 " Chanvre ( Translated Hemp) amongst them. Prior to 1920 hemp fabric was present around 80% of all clothing and house hold goods amongst towels etc. Not to be confused from the cannabis sativa plant. Sadly hemp has the unfortunate stigma of being associated with the recreational drug that has nothing to do with hemp. The reason hemp is such a strong material is due to the nature of it's fi being rather long and highly "coupled together". Hemp has made a comeback recently and particularly in ladies fashion. 3 hemp towels 60x100cm 5 linen towels with initials L. D 80x60cm 2 linen towels 100x60cm 1 linen towel 70x60cm
