Figure (1) - Brass, Wood - Naga - Northeast India / Myanmar
Sculpture of a Naga warrior mounted on a wooden pedestal. The “Nagas” are an ethnic group with an unmistakable common identity, living in northeastern India and Myanmar, in a particularly rough environment, within and around the Indian state of Nagaland. They are associated with the Adivasi (scheduled tribes) . The Konyak warrior has a rifle in each hand. In the wooden pedestal, the figure of a reptile and 2 snakes (Nagas) are sculpted. Such sculptures also served to commemorate important figures in the tribe or to show their prestige. It is in line with the Naga belief that the figurine of someone can magically bring the person closer to the spirits and the dead. (Konyak Naga, Nagaland, India/Birma)
