Fine Dieppe Ivory Corpus Christi sculpture on the cross, Jesus Christ crucifix cross framed in gilt - Rococo - Ivory - 18th century

The anonymous author demonstrates a keen interest in anatomy, perfection of the form and the study of the nude in this finely carved XIX Century French Dieppe Corpus Christi Through this sculpture, the artists aims to represent the moment when Christ asks in agony to God: “My Father, why have you abandoned me! ” Hence that's why we see his head tilted to the right above, heaven, with a painful expression. The expressively rendered body is designed to be viewed from some distance, and it was designed for a slightly lowered viewpoint. Condition: Flawless condition, only the tip of the right middle finger missing, hardly noticeable. Some flacking in the gilt present.
