Fine Ica Polychrome Handled Jar w/ Zoomorphs

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Ica culture, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. An attractive pottery vessel with a round base, a spherical body, a sloped shoulder, and a wide spout with a flared lip. Black and beige pigments decorate the upper half of the vessel featuring several horizontal bands and circular motifs. A pair of ribbon-form handles flank the spout, each arching outwards from mid-neck and ending at the top of the shoulder beside a projecting zoomorph embellishment. Size: 6" in diameter x 6.4" H (15.2 cm x 16.3 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Toluca Lake, California, USA collection acquired pre-1990
