Vessel Returning from Surinam
Signed and indistinctly inscribed or dated "F.H. Lane..." l.r., with a faint "FH" just above and to the left of the signature, identified on a typed label affixed to the stretcher.
Oil on canvas, 18 x 30 1/4 in. (45.5 x 76.5 cm), framed.
Condition: Minor retouch to fill craquelure in sky and stretcher bar mark along right vertical edge, signature reinforced, craquelure, minor surface grime.

Provenance: Probably Dr. Greenleaf, Gloucester, Massachusetts; to his daughter Harriet Greenleaf Whitman; to the parents of the current owner, by family descent.
