Magnificent frontal or antependium embroidered with silk of various colours and in different techniques, gold thread embroidery for the floral motifs around the central cartouche depicting St Francis receiving the stigmata. A set of very fine embroideries executed with extraordinary skill. Dimensions: 66 x 66 cm. The central cartouche proves this with its perfectly executed details, such as the face, hands and feet of the saint and the houses and trees. The meticulousness of the embroiderers has made this frontal a unique and rare piece. Due to the work, colours, artistic subject matter, it can be assumed that the work was executed in the 19th century although it cannot be excluded that it was executed earlier.
