Follower of Sébastien Bourdon, French 1616-1671- Portrait of a gentleman, standing half-length, wearing a white shirt with lace collar and sleeves and black robes, in an interior with a landscape beyond; oil on canvas, 103 x 85 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, since 1990s. Note: The present work is very much in the style of portraits by Sébastien Bourdon, who was court painter for Queen Christina of Sweden and who completed a number of portrait of 17th-century European elite. It was likely conceived after a (lost) original by his hand, and it further bears similarities to portraits by Philippe de Champaigne (1602-1674).
