The Neoproscinetes penalvai is a very rare fish, whose fossil remains are hard to find for various reasons. It is a fish from the Cretaceous era, lived about 110 million years ago. Several specimens have been found in the Santana mines, in Brazil, but this area was later declared UNESCO World Heritage and the excavations stopped. Prior to these changes, in the 1970s, the specimen was imported to Italy. Its rarity is well known by field experts.
