Four Unframed Mola Textile of the Cuna (Kuna) Indians, Sun Blas Island, Panama
Rare, ca. first half 20th century or earlier, multilayer figural multicolor designs, unframed. Two sea life on black background, 15" x 17 ¾" each; fishing for sword fish, 15"x 18"; and whale hunt, 16"x 23 ¼". Hand made by Kuna women, elaborately designed and painstakingly sewn cloth panels stitched in appliqué.
Provenance: Gus and Mimi Bizic "Mola Woman" lifetime private collection, Sewickley, PA, by descent, and then to current owner; acquired at Panama in 1970, The Kapp Kuna Expedition Collection.
