Four Unframed Mola Textiles of the Cuna (Kuna) Indians, Sun Blas Island, Panama
Rare, ca. first half 20th century, multilayer figural multicolor designs, western influence, unframed. Zeppelin and planes; boats and underwater diver among sharks; lobster lookalike plane with paratroopers and steam ships. Hand made by Kuna women, elaborately designed and painstakingly sewn cloth panels stitched in appliqué.
Provenance: Gus and Mimi Bizic "Mola Woman" lifetime private collection, Sewickley, PA, by descent, and then to current owner; acquired at Panama in 1970, The Kapp Kuna Expedition Collection.
