Framed Pre-Columbian Textile Panel - Chimu

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Chimu culture, ca. 700 to 1470 CE. Three textile fragments that complement one another quite nicely, all comprised of hand-woven fibers in shades of red, beige, tawny ochre, and brown hues. The central composition includes registers of stylized geometric motifs, and the surrounding narrow border panels feature serpentine designs. Set against a blue on white paper backing and nicely framed. Size: textile ensemble measures 16" L x 8" W (40.6 cm x 20.3 cm); 20.25" L x 14.25" W (51.4 cm x 36.2 cm) framed

Provenance: private Andrade collection, New York, New York, USA, acquired 1960's

Condition Report: One of the narrow serpentine sections is in very good condition with vivid iconography and only minor loss; the other serpentine border section and the large central textile show areas of loss, fraying, loosened fibers, and staining.
