France - 18th century - Percussion - Pistol

[ translate ]

So-called ‘basque’ carriage pistol, revolutionary era. Flintlock pistol from the late 18th century, converted to percussion in the 19th century. In the past, ‘basques’ were pockets inside a frock coat, where small weapons could be concealed. All fittings are made of iron, without noticeable corrosion. Cap in the shape of a corbin's beak and the barrel is slightly flared at the muzzle; the bridge is decorated with a Phrygian cap and the butt has filigree designs. The rod is present, the lock plate is stamped with the letter ‘A’. The lock plate is unmarked and the pistol comes from a private armoury, very common at that time. The pistol holds both notches well and the spring is firm. Interesting piece for collectors and as a historical memento.
