A collector's rarity. 11 mm GRAS de Cadet rifle (for cadets) , caliber 11 mm Gras reduced - 11x51R (sometimes referred to as 11 x 48. 5R) - "11mm Gras dit de Cadet". The construction corresponds to the infantry variant of the well-known Gras rifle, but it is a reduced design (without bayonet catch) . Weapon length 1116 mm, barrel length 710 mm, weight 2. 8 kg. Distances to the visor have also been reduced. The weapon is in very good condition (only small signs of surface corrosion present; inferior state of rifling near the mouth of the barrel) , complete (except for the wiper) , including the carrying strap, fully functional, stock preserved, markings legible. The production of this model is estimated at 50,000 pieces produced between 1880 and 1881; it was produced (on a smaller scale) by both state and civilian (the vast majority) armories ; weapons usually do not have the manufacturer's designation. The GRAS de Cadet rifle was designed to provide training for children (boys) aged eleven to thirteen in handling weapons, handling, maintenance, shooting, law enforcement, etc. This program was a reaction to the defeat of France in the Prussian-French War of 1870.
