France - P. Berjat - Double Barrel - Pinfire (Lefaucheux) - Pistol - 12mm cal

Beautiful double-barrelled pistol with a very beautiful deluxe finish, circa late 19th century (1870-1880) , 12 mm calibre with pinfire, retractable triggers. Chest in polished steel, engraved and chiselled with foliage and floral patterns, the trigger guard and the barrel lock are also finely engraved. The Renaissance-type walnut butt is carved with palmettos on each side, there are some light dents and discolourations in the wood, but no cracks or gaps. The cap is covered with a polished steel plate with scalloped tip. Round bronzed steel side-by-side double barrel on a tilting platform, the block is in excellent condition, no play in the bolt. The barrels are grooved with mirror surface, no sign of tarnishing. Works perfectly. Springs in excellent condition, triggers, hammers and barrels fully functional, all parts are perfectly adjusted, the butt also stays in place with no play. Signed ‘P. BERJAT’ on the support of the barrels, each part of the weapon is numbered ‘5’. Superb specimen of these pinfire pistols with a beautiful deluxe finish, very well-made and in an exceptionally well-preserved condition for such an antique weapon.
