Die Darstellung des Martyriums des Petrus Paschasius war in Spanien ein beliebtes Thema. Hier handelt es sich um Bozetto, welches Morales y Marin als von Goyas Hand bestimmte. Eine fertig ausgeführte Version war ihm und ist uns auch heute nicht bekannt. Vergleichbar sei laut Morales jedoch ein Gemälde mit gleichem Thema in der Kathedrale von Jaen von 1794. (12115112) (13)

The depiction of the martyrdom of Petrus Paschasius was a popular subject in Spain. The bozzetto on offer for sale here was attributed to Goya by Morales y Marin. Morales was not aware of a finished version and neither are we. However, according to him a painting of the same subject held at the Cathedral of Jaen and dating 1794 easily compares to the work on offer for sale here.
