Very rare French painting of Napoleon Bonaparte on a battlefield by a follower of Baron Antoine-Jean Gros This magnificent painting, created around 1810 and undoubtedly intended as a piece of Napoleonic propaganda, depicts Napoleon, the center of the composition, inspecting the bloody, snow-covered battlefield of Eylau, where his Grande Armée won. The painter of the present work wonderfully captured the intensity of emotions an all of the faces, as well as capturing the whole composition with swift and confident brushstrokes. The present work likely dates from around ca. 1810, this was confirmed by first-hand inspection of a Cabinet d'expertise in Paris. Oil on paper on panel, the dimensions of the panel are ca. 45*60 cms and 57*72cms with frame. Great condition with some small areas of inpainting, frame will be given as a gift.
