Notes: Zuber-Buhler, a Swiss artist, was well known for his mythological scenes and portraits. He studied in Germany, Italy and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris where he debuted at the Paris Salon of 1850. For the next 40 years he exhibited throughout European Salons with considerable success that attracted the attention of the U.S. collectors after an exhibition at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
