Fukang Meteorite Slice Pallasite, PMG Xinjiang, China - (44° 26'N, 87° 38'E) Found: 2000 The Pallasite variety of meteorites is generally considered the most beautiful of all varieties for the vivid crystals often within the metallic structures. Of the numerous types of Pallasites, Fukang is a top variety, and this stony-iron material is estimated to be an astonishing 4.5 billion years old, making it, effectively, the same age as our solar system. Found in the mountains near the city of Fukang in China in 2000, the material has been supremely popular with collectors and enthusiasts since it first hit the market. This is an exquisite slab of the iconic meteorite featuring a unique shape, an incredible concentration of crystal material, and a relatively large surface area. Greenish-gold and golden-brown Olivine crystals cover much of the flat surfaces of this phenomenal specimen. A majority of the colorful, varied-size crystals exhibit an intense translucency allowing this piece to display spectacularly when properly backlit or held up to any suitable light source. Given that Fukang examples are not commonly seen for sale coupled with the very large size of this slab weighing 648 grams (1.4 pounds), it is obvious why pieces like this not only warrant but also consistently realize premium valuations. This is a truly wow specimen of a very iconic meteorite. Measurements: 9.37 x 7.13 x 0.19 inches (23.80 x 18.10 x 0.49 cm), weighs 648 grams HID09710052018 © 2022 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
