Inscription: Lower middle signed: ""CHARLES DE LA FOSSE/Peintre ordinaire du Roy, Ancien Directeur et Recteur en son/Academie Royale./Peint par Hyacinthe Rigaud", "Grave par Duchange pour sa Reception a l'Academie en 1707",".

Date: 1707

Description: Bust portrait of the French painter Charles de La Fosse, his head turned to the right, with flowing curls, a shiny draped coat on his right shoulder, the drapery of which extends over the oval frame to the ledge below. On this ledge lies a palette with brushes on the left; below it bears an inscription with the sitter's name and details of the artists who executed the work.

Condition: Rather good condition. Somewhat browned and duststained, lightly stained, old mounting faintly showing through at upper right and left, small loss at upper left corner, slight crease at upper right corner and minimal crease at lower left corner, thinned out paper spot at lower right and small hole at lower right below the image.
