GENERAL MARK CLARK AUTOGRAPH

(1896-1984) Four-star U.S. General. Signed typed letter on his Citadel Military College of the South Carolina, letterhead, 14 April 1980, 8.25 x 11 inches. In part: '...When I was the Commander of the Ground Forces in Italy during a good bit of the war, I was always opposed by a top flight German Commander, from Rommel through Kesselring, and finally General von Vietinghoff. I was happy when each one was reassigned, but sure that his successor would be just as good. I expect Rommel was the best of them all but he commanded the troops in Northern Italy and Kesselring was the one who opposed me most of the war.' Signed by Clark in blue ink at conclusion of the letter.
