The whaler 'Hebe' running into Whitby Harbour with the Abbey beyond

The Turnbull family of Whitby, shipbuilders and owners, thence by descent until 2010.
With Walker Galleries, Harrogate.
Launched 1823, the whaler Hebe was registered at 139 tons which was later extended to 175 tons. Her Master was John Chambers, elder brother of the artist. He went on to captain a coaster but was lost in 1841. The Turnbull family are thought to have been friends and associates of the Chapman family, patrons of Chambers.
Relined, paint a little thin in sea otherwise fine condition.
